FAQs
Newborn - When to shoot?
If you’re looking for the snuggly sleepy images, then we should aim for the session to be in the first 14 days of life. I know things can change and if you feel like it’s too soon for the session, we can make it a little bit later - there will be more awake moments and less snuggly.
What to wear?
Firstly don’t stress! This is my number one question and I am happy to offer guidance. Don’t over complicate it, I recommend finding your outfit first and then coordinate the rest of the family.
Tones & Colours - Colours are a key element in photos. They will help for your family to look great together as a whole. I recommend sticking with neutral colours such as cream, brown, mustard, tan, white, olive and pastels. They will work in any environment as it is easy to combine. Softer colours work beautifully in photographs and keep the focus on the family.
Textures & Fabrics - Textures and layers add an extra element to your photos. Think linen, lace and chunky knits! Whether it is a crochet blanket for your newborn portrait or a cardigan over your shirt or dress. Natural fabrics like linen give your photos a soft and organic feel.
Compliment & Coordinate - Compliment and coordinate, but don't get too matchy. We want everyone to look unique and portray their individual style. Pick your colour palette and add different shades to compliment. I want you to pick clothing that reflects you as a person and makes you feel beautiful and confident.
What to Avoid - Last but not least a few things I don't recommend. Please stay away from dark colours such as navy blue, black and dark grey. Those colours don't show up with any definition in photos and often look very harsh. Avoid logo's, prints and characters on clothing. It might look cute in real life, but it's very distracting in photographs.
What to expect in your session.
My sessions are relaxed and all about your family interacting and being your true selves. I know it can be a little awkward to be yourself with a camera pointed at you, I will give you plenty of guidance and position you for the best light. I will be asking you to look at each other, playing games and lots of cuddles.
If you have any small children in the session, I know it can feel overwhelming to want them to behave and listen to intrustions. I find the easiest way to photograph little ones is to let them be and I’ll let them lead the way. The more relaxed you are, the more opportunites I will have to capture their personalities.
During the session I will photograph as many combinations as possible. If you have anything important you’d like included, please let me know.
Where are my sessions?
I hold my sessions either on location or in-home. If you have any locations in mind, please let me know so I can check them out beforehand.
Props
Personally I find props can overcomplicate things and be a distraction. That being said, if you have something special like a hand knitted blanket in a newborn session, a favourite blanket to sit on during a location session please let me know.
Bad weather
Unfortunately bad weather is a fact of life in Melbourne. I am flexible and we will reschedule. Alternatively if your session is on location, we can move it to an in-home session.
What happens if someone is sick?
We will reschedule - I want everyone feeling their best.
What time would my session be?
My in-door sessions are flexible with timing and often during the day.
Location sessions are in the early morning or late afternoon for the best lighting.
What days are your sessions?
Sessions are Saturday and Sundays. Newborn sessions are great to do during the week if both parents are on leave. Please contact me for availability.
When will I get my images?
After the session I will select and edit the very best from the session. I will send you a link to your gallery within 2-3 weeks.
