Golden hour at the Canberra Arboretum - A sunset session full of heart

There’s something truly magical about August sunsets at the National Arboretum Canberra. The golden hour light wraps everything in warmth, and as the sun dips low over the hills, it turns the landscape into the perfect backdrop for family memories. It’s one of my favourite times of year to shoot — especially when the people in front of the camera mean something extra special.

This session was one close to my heart. I had the joy of photographing one of my oldest friends and her beautiful family — someone I’ve known since primary school. It’s such an honour to be invited back for the second time to capture their growing family, and it felt more like hanging out with friends than a photoshoot.

The boys were an absolute delight. Full of energy, giggles, cheeky smiles, and those unfiltered, genuine moments that make photographing children such a joy. Whether they were running down the gravel paths, exploring the trees, or cuddling up with Mum and Dad, they brought so much life to every frame.

We laughed, we played, we paused to soak in that glowing light — and I honestly could’ve kept shooting long after the sun disappeared. Sessions like these remind me why I love what I do: it’s about connection, joy, and documenting families just as they are.

To my beautiful friends — thank you for trusting me once again with your memories. And to the Arboretum, thank you for showing off in such golden glory.
